You KNOW you're sick when you're asking the mail lady why the Washington Post didn't come in as you gesture to TODAY'S WASHINGTON POST THAT SHE JUST HANDED YOU.

Contrary to popular belief, Meryl Streep is Not God

Crappy Movie!

You KNOW you're sick when you sit through Music of the Heart from start to finish because you are just too tired and apathetic to change the channel.

My roommate came home from work and was like "WHAT are you WATCHING???"

I shall avenge my foe and smite him on the mountaintop, armed with orange juice and acetaminaphen.

Right now all of what little energy I have is being spent to calculate who gave me this horrendous cold and plotting their demise.  I'm not a complaining person and I never get sick.  I will tell you right now, I'm quite positive that I'm DYING.  So, the culprits:

The two biggies: my roomie or the guy I'm dating.  My roommie came down with something that kept her in bed for three days straight the week before I left for Ecuador.  She seemed like a softie so I let it roll down my back.  The guy I'm dating complained about feeling sickish the week before and during my actual stay in Ecuador.  I chalked up his whining to typical male inability to deal with discomfort.  Bunch of pansies, the people I associate with.

Clearly this is a more superior virus than I had anticipated.  Maybe they weren't just being children, as this germ strand managed to infiltrate my normally sound barrier of amazing immunity.  Because [A] really, I never get sick.  Not sick like this anyway.  But when I do, I am down for the count.  Totally useless.  I'm amazed I'm blogging right now, except typing requires such little energy.  That and using my laptop on the couch puts me in such a position that makes the idea of getting up feel like running a marathon.  And [B] I really think I'm dying.  What are some other cold like symptoms of serious diseases? Early congestive heart failure? Cancer? Do I have cancer? (now might be the time to mention that as I get older I show stronger and stronger signs of hypochondria.)

Anywho, neither of those two germ bearing host bodies are available at the moment to feel my wrath (albeit weakened in my current condition) so the internet shall hear me bitch and moan.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going out for fruit pops and Dayquil.  And then I shall sleep until it's time to go to work tomorrow.

ps. what happened to my cute anime picture of myself? HOWARD!!!!!!

And now back to our regularly scheduled program...Leaving for Ecuador in just a few short hours makes me very very happy

I shall return after Christmas! I may post over there but I have little patience for their crazy spanish language keyboards.  If you don't hear from me, have a wonderful and safe holiday everyone!

We Interrupt Our Regularly Scheduled Program to Bring You This Important Message: Do Not Get Drunk at the Office Holiday Party

When I woke up with a start at 1:30am with no memery of how I made it into bed from the time I was dropped off by one of my co-workers, I attempted to recreate with what little memories I had to work with the events of last night's holiday party.  Here's what I've come up with:

1. I remember eating a very very light meal of turkey, stuffing, and risotto.  I remember getting seconds on the risotto. I remember that when I started eating, I had already had two glasses of wine.

2.  I remember telling the one other young co-worker in our office, K, that I was on drink number four, and she raced to the bar because she wanted to "catch up."  I refused to be outdone and downed my glass, moving on to number five.

3. Chocolate covered strawberries.  I remember shoveling about twenty of them in my mouth in a 20 minute period.  Normally my absolute favorite dessert, I suddenly find that I've acquired a total distaste for them. Yuck.

4.  I remember speaking with one of our equity partners, basically the 2nd person in the office I should be most afraid of.  I remember we agreed to do happy hour at a place called Bottom Line and we planned on drinking miller light for $1.  To be fair, I'm quite positive he was drunk as well.

5.  I remember talking to my boss.  I have no idea what we talked about, but I remember very distinctly standing there and thinking "You are talking to your boss, act cool Arlene."  I hope it worked.

6. I remember throwing up two seperate times, neither, luckily, in the vicinity of co-workers.  Thank god I had that much sense.

7.  I remember calling the guy I am dating.  I can't recall a single detail of our conversation but I do remember calling him because I was determined to get him to come pick me up.  Apparently the pleadings of a drunk girl who undoubtedly admitted that she threw up weren''t appealing because I was alone and in my own bed when I woke up at 1:30.  Also, there are two text messages from him, admonishing me not to drive.  I have no idea what I actually sent him that prompted these responses.

8.  My roommate, at one point in the evening after I returned, suggested I go to bed.  This may or may not be because I stole a floral arrangement from the party and presented it to her, claiming I got it especially for her.  It also could possibly be because I attempted to "sort the mail" when I got home, which resulted in a huge mess on the counter, which she was nice enough to leave for me to clean up.

9.  When I woke at 1:30, I was really really proud of myself that I managed to go to sleep in my pajamas, seeing as how I had no memory of actually preparing for or entering my bed.  This feeling disintegrated at 8:30am when I woke up again and realized I had slept in my contacts all night.  Fantastic move.

10.  I lost my secret santa gift.  It was only a certificate to iTunes which, luckily, does not need an actual card to use, in fact, the person who got it for me needs to forward me the e-mail for the actual code. So I didn't actually lose it.  But I'm still wondering where it is.  I also lost my keys and had to call and ask my roommate to let me in.  They were on my dresser this morning, and I have a very sneaking suspicion that I actually had them in my hand the whole time.

11.  I've been told that I walked into a wall and that this was viewed by at least two lawyers.  Thank god I'm going on vacation in two days.  I have no memory of this. Real classy, Arlene.

Thankfully everyone here is super cool so no one cared much. But still, definitely not the impression I was trying to make.  Not to mention, I got into work at 10am this morning and I still feel absolutely disgusting. Gross. I guess I just learned one of life's most important lessons: Don't get drunk at your office holiday party.

Filling My Passport With Stamps Makes Me Happy

Passport!

Look how many times I've been in and out of Heathrow.  More than the U.S., I think.  I really need to go somewhere new.  I'm thinking somewhere in the Caribbean in February and Greece in October/November of 2006. Warm weather and super clear blue water. Yum.

They take their schadenfreude very seriously over there

So I've been thinking about language school for a while.  I plan to get my masters in art history, and any good art historian has reading comprehension in french and german.  So it's a good thing I took spanish in high school and college.  Seriously though, if I have to learn the language, might as well go to the source.  So I'm looking up language schools in germany and found one in Berlin.  Apparently they do things a little differently in Germany...

Wait, what? Since when does one hour = 45 minutes? Does this mean red really means "Go"? And I should use my knife to stir my coffee?

My Blog is Really Excited that I'm Going to Ecuador

Why else would it consistently jump down to the Ecuador countdown everytime it opens the page?  Seriously, can someone with the right know-how take a look at my code and tell me what's up.  Or is this a problem with the countdown itself? It's being awfully vain.  Maybe some of you didn't scroll down to look at it enough.  It clearly needs some attention.  And why not? I mean, 8 days!! Where did the time go??
