I saw this over the weekend and loved it instantly.  Now it's a viral video.  I need to make one of these for Gadget.  Best five second video ever.

I don't like to brag but I have the world's best boyfriend.  Look at what he got me for my birthday!!!!!

HAMSTER BIRTHDAY CAKE

Also, he bought himself a D40 and look at all the great hamster pictures we've been taking:

I don't like to give my hamster a hard time, but I swear she's dumb as rocks.  This is how she drinks water, no matter how much room you give her.  It'd be like if every time you wanted water you lied down on your bed and hung over the edge while gulping.  What an idiot.

Nevermind my crappy morning of hangover-ness, Poor Adam has fractured his nose in a softball game gone wrong, a game I should've been at, no less, if it weren't for that pesky happy hour.  The doctor needs to break his nose completely and will reset it.  Ideally this would happen about a week from now but the doctor is willing to do it before we leave.  We're now re-evaluating our vacation.  He won't be able to snorkel, scuba or wear sunglasses.  I'm too nauseous to think about this.  This is definitely an unhappy face moment.

Mid-June Checkup

wearing: summer dresses and living in my sweats.
listening to: the Fratellis, Panda Bear and this band I heard while in Minneapolis.
reading: I bought a huge stack of books to read at the beach, including Absurdistan and a Dave Sedaris book that I may or may not have already read.  I seriously can't remember. And that's sad.
watching: I'm starting Wonderfalls and maybe - MAYBE - Heroes soon, but really I'm itching to get a hold of The Wire Season 4 and catching up on Entourage.
craving: sushi and other raw food, as always.  How much longer until the food poisoning catches up with me? Also, any sort of ice cream/milkshake/smoothie cold yummy thing.
wondering: what the weather will be like on the islands next week.
wishing: the week wasn't going so darn slow and that I could buy a digital SLR
lusting after: anything James Perce and those Tory Burch snakeskin wedges.  It's almost my birthday hint hint.
loving: hmmm...my new purse? My hamster? My boyfriend? No, no, my new purse.  Yeah.
crushing: To be honest, I'm kinda into Seth Rogan.  I'm tired of all these pretty boys.  Give me someone sweet and funny who will eat cheesesteaks and watch Netflix with me.
impatiently awaiting: MY BIRTHDAY AND TURKS & CAICOS!!!! Also, summer hours at the office.
dreading: summer humidity and coming back from vacation to monotony.

Tuesday, 19 June 2007

So I'm finalizing our plans for our vacation next week and was looking at some possible activities should the brain rotting be too much for us.  And I noticed that we can tour the local conch farm (in case you can't tell, the Turks and Caicos is not for the site-seeing inclined).

The website described the experience: "Explore the only conch farm in the world, yes where Caribbean Queen conchs are raised from veliger to adult. Here you can watch how the process is done, enjoy a show with the two trained and very friendly conchs, see conch pearls and even purchase fresh conch for a fabulous conch salad."

Wait.  WAIT JUST A FRIGGIN MINUTE.  TRAINED PERFORMING CONCH?  Basically we get to watch the real live version of Gary from Spongebob SquarePants? HOLY. SHIT.  Words cannot even contain my excitement.
Meow!!!

Weekend Regurgitation

Friday - went to a rooftop party in the Chinatown area which lead me to believe everyone's goal on this earth should be finding a place to live where you can have sweet ass rooftop parties.  Oh, it helps if you speak fluent Italian and offer tapas and sangria.  And are really charming.  Also, I decided I'm going to Buenes Aires.

Saturday - All day wedding affair/Virtua Tennis competition when I exhibited my ability to rock at everything I do even if it is for the first time. Okay FINE I admit, Virtua Tennis was a ton of fun, so much so that I would consider buying XBOX 360 for it.  The wedding was lovely but exhausting and I've never seen a happier bride (seriously, she looked absolutely stoked and I can't say I've ever seen that before).

Sunday - Father's Day brunch at Bistro Bis, which was very good although I made the mistake of getting a croque madame which is the world's heaviest, saltiest sandwich ever.  Also, I pretty much figured out that I can't NOT order steak tartare.  I've probably had most of the steak tartares in this city.  I don't know what's going on with me and raw food.  Later on I watched "Philadelphia" which is very good albeit dated.

Gadget watching "Philadelphia" with me.  Taken with Photobooth.

Have you heard of the Ten and Two Fives for a Twenty bait and switch? A guy comes up to you, saying he needs a twenty dollar bill so he offers you two $5 bills and a $10 bill and you give him the $20.  Except he comes back and says you only gave him a one and in your confusion you give him another $20.  Well I just saw it happen.

I was browsing in Olsson's books and some guy came up to me offering the deal.  Now I knew about the scam but even if I didn't, I don't carry cash anyway.  But he worked his way around the table and eventually one woman fell for it.  I watched him take the $20 bill, stash it in his back pocket, pull out a $1 bill and work his magic.  But as soon as that happened, I spoke up.  Well Mr. Con Artist didn't like this and proceeded to get ridiculously close to me and tell me to mind my own business.  Eventually the employees of the store threw him out.

The woman said deep down she knew but was willing to give the benefit of the doubt.  She was very thankful and I tried to brush it off because I would hope someone would do the same for me.

Except now people are saying I'm an idiot for getting involved because I could've been hurt or maimed or killed or raped.

Well now I'm just confused.  I think publicly shaming the bad people in this world is an important societal role that most of us are too afraid to take on, but at what point do you just worry about yourself and at what point do you do the right thing, a la Spike Lee?

Friday, 15 June 2007

My birthday is one week hence and I'll be turning an astonishingly young 47.  I realized this sometime around 7:45pm last night while I was driving to the gym when these ASSHOLE KIDS were standing on the side of the road and they threw a rock at my car!! I know it was them because I could see them in my rear view mirror as I drove away.  And I was literally on the phone with the police in the parking lot when I realized OMG.  I'm an old person.  I'm old enough for kids to want to throw rocks at me and old enough to actually think "Someone needs to get those hooligans off the street."  I can't be sure, but I really hope I didn't shake my fist angrily at them and mutter "Damn kids" under my breath as I drove away.  I think at this age though, you do that unconsciously.  By this time next year I'll be voting conservative.
