Currently avoiding: Mad Men spoilers. For all I can tell, some crazy shiznit went down on the season finale and dudes I'm only on episode five, with the rest sitting in my sad little DVR box. Maybe the DVR box can get together with my Netflix account and the vacuum and laundry and everything else in life that I've ignored, more or less, for the past two months. They could have a pity party. I, unfortunately, can't make it.by: DJGroovySlug at October 23, 2007 16:01 | link | comments (1)

Oh well let me talk about my super awesome, non-stop weekend where I think the only time I wasn't super busy or on the way to do something super busy, was last night circa 2am this morning when my body decided to reject everything I had eaten for dinner last night. And as I spent the night shaking on the floor of the bathroom, I was glad that at least I spent the weekend doing the things I love with the people I love and they would remember me fondly.I did foolishly take a Tums when the pain started, which was idiotic. It was like throwing a bullet at an advancing mob.
Obviously I made it through the night and now I nurse my poor stomach and intestines with gatorade and soup and saltines and rub the magical hamster on my belly for her healing powers (I'm
So what did this weekend involve? A 4 mile hike up a mountain, shopping for and cooking homemade shrimp ragu for The Boy (recipe here, and HIGHLY RECOMMEND), going to campus two separate times to yell at people for blocking my registration and then again to meet up with some folks for a midterm study group.
The highlight of the weekend (the shrimp ragu being a close second) was definitely Rodrigo y Gabriela last night at the 9:30 club. I'm not entirely sure how to describe their music besides awesome and I would argue that the album doesn't do them justice. They are best seen live and it was easily the best show I had ever seen. They played lots, they took requests, they had a ton of audience interaction, constantly talking and at one point had the entire audience singing along to Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here." Also I think I can say quite confidently that Gabriela > Meg White.
Okay, in all disclosure, this is the exact conversation my friend and I had before the show:
"So I don't really know much about the band."
"Yeah, the only thing I've really seen of them are those ad spots on MTV."
"Me too."
"..."
"..."
"Jesus we're such posers."

It's only right that I share this with the world:
What's that? Uh, yes, that was me, that annoying girl who spends all her blog posts complaining about how she has no free time and cries every Tuesday because she's so darn burnt out. I certainly don't have time for shenanigans. Busy with school. Getting As on mah papers. Contributing to the field. Whatnot.

Things currently occupying my life, all of which I am carrying among three different bags* as I schlep between home, work, school and The Boy's house:- camera. I need a picture that depicts movement. Portraits of me and my friends doing silly things does not count. Did I mention I bought a new film camera? It's pretty much awesome. On a related note, my photography teacher: PSYCHO. Nice enough, really, but man she reamed me out for a couple of things, including why haven't I gone to the photography store to find out how to fix my light meter? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH ME?
- school notebook and books. My professor, clearly born ca. 1846, decided that instead of providing us with online readings and lecture notes he would print the whole damn thing out for us. Is this a problem? Perhaps. It's certainly a waste of paper and the stack is quite literally the larger than a textbook for freshmen Intro to Biiology. And it is now sitting in my bedroom taking up space. And giving me back spasms as I lug it around.
- yoga clothes & mat - I'm back at yoga. It's like I have a disease. Complete inability to give myself free time. But the yoga makes it feel soooo gooooood. Helps with the back spasms.
- tarot cards - Quite possibly the most random gift I've ever received, some new guy at work bought them for me. He's really good at it and read my fortune and now I'm trying to learn. My friend says I'm going to turn into one of those old ladies who whips them out of their purse at the slightest provocation. You know what though? I believe tarot often makes us realize what we suppress in our subconscious. I could get in the history of symbology and go on long tirades about Jungian theory but instead I'll say: I HAVE SUPER POWERS WOOHOO.
- the new Iron & Wine album, along with Sia and Okkervil River on my iPod - pretty much love all of them. Hooray for getting into new music that isn't Kanye West or Arcade Fire. The hipster transformation is almost complete. Next up: plastic Ray-Bans and scarf with ethnic prints.
- organic butternut squash soup - I'm sort of half-ass exploring what I'm calling "home vegetarianism" meaning any meals I make for myself will be vegetarian. The biggest reason is because I have a debilitating fear of improperly cooking meat and then getting food poisoning. But it's also because meat is expensive and I'm grossed out by processed sandwich meats that come in colorful packaging. It's actually working out pretty well. Ask me about the amazing vegetarian meal I made last Wednesday. Ask me.
